Hallo

Hi, I have worked in projection all my life and love it, I remember going to the cinema as a kid and watching some of the most amazing films I had ever seen. For some reason it felt like a magical thing and loved going every week. Once I had got a little older I didn’t shake the love of movies I had got from such a young age and continued to go to the movies, when I got to the time in my life where I needed to start work I got a part time job at a cinema and that is where it started. Projection! You would see these people running around from screen to screen making sure everything was ok, making sure the volume was just right for the film, they all started at the right time and always making sure that the movie goer was getting the best experience they could. This is where I started, didn’t get paid at all for any training and I would just come in on a day off and spend all day tiring to learn everything and I loved it. So a far few years down the line and that is where you find me, working in one of Manchester’s cinemas and still enjoying what I do.

Why I’m here,

I think the general perception of projection is not what happens in real life, you may be surprised how many people think the films come on tapes or that you have to watch every film over and over again in one day. This is not the case and I hope you will come to see this, out of all the cinema projection is normally the most expensive department to run, the cost of maintenance, Xenon Bulbs, wages and many other things add up to a large number. But don’t forget why do people come to the cinema? Just to buy popcorn and drink? No, to watch films and without the projection team or projectors your local cinema would just be a shop.

So I hope to bring you info on what films I think are going to be big also info on what is happening in the Big Money industry of cinema in the UK along with any rants and raves I may have.

I hope you enjoy it.

  1. hey can you see every thing out of the Projection Room?

most things, if you are asking can i see you and your girlfriend on the back row it would be no. having small port holes (to let less of the light from the projection booth through) makes your view smaller.

Sorry just left a comment on your about page, but seen this now so I understand a bit better where you’re coming from! My grandad was a manger of an old 2 screen cinema when I was a child, and I used to love going in the projection room! I agree there’s something quite magical about the cinema, not just the films but the whole experience of it. Michelle
